Acrylic Cut to Size – Custom Perspex Sheet Cutting
Sign Portal supplies acrylic cut to size for signage, fabrication, displays, protective panels, templates, prototypes and custom projects. Acrylic—often referred to by brand names such as Perspex—is valued for its clarity, clean appearance, weather resistance and ability to be precisely laser cut or CNC routed.
Cut to your required dimensions or shape
Customers can order simple rectangular pieces or provide vector artwork for custom profiles, holes, slots, cut-outs and more detailed shapes. With two onsite laser cutters and CNC routing capability, Sign Portal can select the most appropriate cutting method for the material thickness and required finish.
Available acrylic thicknesses
Common acrylic thicknesses used across our work include 2mm, 3mm, 4.5mm, 6mm, 10mm, 15mm and 20mm, subject to colour and sheet availability. Standard full-sheet acrylic is commonly supplied around 2440mm x 1220mm, although exact sheet formats can vary by material and manufacturer. CO₂ laser cutting is particularly suited to many acrylic applications up to approximately 15mm, while thicker or specialist work may be CNC routed where appropriate.
Clear and coloured acrylic
Clear cast acrylic can provide approximately 92% visible light transmission, making it suitable for display and protective applications where transparency is important. Coloured, opaque, translucent and specialty acrylics can also be used for signage, decorative panels and branded fabrication.
Typical applications
Custom acrylic pieces are used for signage faces, machine guards, point-of-sale displays, shelving components, plaques, architectural features, templates, product displays, trophies, panels and fabrication projects. Edges, fixing holes and tolerances should be specified to suit the intended use.
Artwork and dimensional accuracy
For custom-shaped work, vector files such as AI, EPS, PDF, SVG or DXF are generally preferred. Customers should confirm critical dimensions, hole diameters, internal radii and fit requirements before production. Acrylic can expand and contract with temperature, so assemblies requiring very tight fits should allow for real-world service conditions.
Sign Portal cuts and fabricates acrylic in-house in Brisbane, giving customers direct access to laser cutting, CNC routing, UV printing and signage manufacturing under one roof.

FAQ
Acrylic cut to size questions
Laser cutting acrylic offers many advantages compared to CNC routing or waterjet cutting. Laser-cut acrylic comes off the machine with a near flame-polished edge, requiring minimal post-processing. Achieving this edge quality through other methods would involve time-consuming and expensive manual finishing. Unlike CNC routers, lasers can also cut more precise interior features without the need for a radius, delivering cleaner, more accurate cuts in less time.
Acrylic, also known as Perspex, is a versatile plastic sheet material that offers exceptional strength and optical clarity. It's easy to work with, making it suitable for a wide range of applications from signage to architectural features. It offers excellent optical clarity (up to 92% light transmission), a high-gloss finish, hard-wearing durability, weather resistance for outdoor use, and is lightweight and easy to fabricate.
Acrylic offers exceptional light transmission, up to 92% of visible light, providing a crystal-clear finish unmatched even by glass. This makes acrylic an excellent choice for glazing and display applications where optical clarity is critical.
Cast acrylic is one of the toughest thermoplastic materials available, maintaining its appearance and integrity over time. It is known for its impact resistance and is durable enough for both indoor and outdoor applications. Despite its clarity and strength, acrylic weighs only half as much as an equivalent glass panel, making transport and installation far easier.
Yes. Acrylic performs well in outdoor environments and resists weathering, with no significant changes in appearance expected for up to ten years.
We stock acrylic sheets in 2mm, 3mm, 4.5mm, 6mm, 8mm and 10mm thicknesses. Our clear acrylic range is extensive, while coloured and translucent sheets are limited to 3mm or 6mm thickness. Acrylic is used across many industries: signage with intricate logos and lettering, retail and product displays, architectural features such as custom windows and panels, art and craft projects, and protective barriers such as custom-sized sneeze guards and shields for offices and retail environments.
